Maria Chen
Program Coordinator, IFAWF
Researcher, University of British Columbia
Maria is a researcher in the University of British Columbia's Animal Welfare Program. During her research, she lived and worked with Chinese dairy farmers to understand their perspectives, as well as factors influencing animal care. She hopes that through this program, passionate individuals can connect and become inspired to work collaboratively to create a better world for farmed animals.
Jonathon Tree
Program Advisor, IFAWF
Policy and International Liaison, Environment & Animal Society of Taiwan
Jonathon works on policy and international liaison at the Environment & Animal Society of Taiwan (EAST), where he leverages his international perspective to facilitate legislative advocacy, corporate collaboration, and consumer education to further EAST’s mission of achieving change for farm animals. He is a member of the Effective Altruism community, and has strong hopes for the growth of the farm animal protection field in China.
Maria and Jonathon are engaged in the IFAWF in an individual capacity, and do not represent their respective employers or institutions.
Job Description: Program Manager
Job summary
Hours: We have a preference for full-time applicants (40 hours/week), though we are open to part-time applicants (≥20 hours/week)
Salary: 50,000 USD for full-time
Location: Remote
You will join a small, dedicated team to design, shape, and lead the upcoming iterations of the International Farm Animal Welfare Fellowship, building on existing foundations to take the fellowship to the next level.
The ideal candidate for this position will be enthusiastic and self-driven with the ability to execute ideas independently and think laterally to solve problems. You will have strong time management skills to thrive in a remote work environment and some experience in overseeing projects to completion. You will be passionate about helping others succeed and building supportive, resilient communities.
Key responsibilities
Work alongside the coordinator to lead the development and implementation of the fellowship program
Lead fellow recruitment, program design, and administration of the fellowship program
Form relationships with key stakeholders in the field including guests of the fellowship program
Work collaboratively with our fiscal sponsor to distribute grants to promising individuals working on farm animal welfare
Establish and maintain healthy community norms
Oversee budgets, financial expenditure, and record-keeping
Maintain strong relationships with funding partners and provide 6-month progress reports
Identify strategic opportunities to further the objectives of the fellowship program
Qualifications
Essential
Self-motivated and proactive
Strong project management skills
Ability to think strategically and lead decision-making processes
Strong interpersonal skills and ability to mediate disagreements
Passionate about supporting others and improving the lives of farmed animals
Open-minded to a wide variety of approaches to improving farm animal welfare
Proven time management skills
Ability to work remotely
Preferred
Familiarity with farmed animal welfare in China
Fluency in Mandarin Chinese
